Artist, Margy O’Brien, says, “My own journals and sketchbooks allow me the pleasure of discovering something for myself, reading directly from nature.” She continues, “I gain insight into myself, sharpen my senses and recover from the desensitization of modern life.” On Saturday, August 30 celebrated artist, Margy O’Brien, will teach two nature journaling classes: a beginner’s class in the morning and an advanced class in the afternoon. The Beginner’s class will teach you how to start your own journal. No prior art experience is necessary. This class will take place from 9:30AM to 12:30PM. The Advanced class will learn how to take journaling to a new level using color to deepen your power of expression. O’Brien will do a watercolor demo, then participants will be free to add color with their own materials - watercolor, colored pencils, or any favorite medium. Prior art experience necessary, but students that attend the Beginner’s class are welcomed. This class will take place from 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM. O’Brien will provide instruction, natural objects, examples of completed pages, and sources for materials. All students will need a blank sketch book of your choice, pencils and any art supplies you enjoy using. The majority of the instruction will take place indoors, but prepare for some projects outdoors and bring sun protection, water and a portable stool or blanket for your comfort. Workshop fee for each class is $15.00 per person. Space for each class is limited to 20 people, 10 years old and above. Call 897-8831 to register.
