Care for, observe and maintain a variety of fish and aquatic life within the City zoo; provide responsible assistance to the Aquarium Manager and perform a variety of tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or two (2) years of college-level course work in marine biology or related field, plus two (2) years aquarium operations experience. Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. Possession of an appropriate valid SCUBA diving certificate within (6) months from date of hire into position.
Position requires: Background check, Pre-employment physical, TB Test.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
Basic anatomy, physiology and behavior of fish and invertebrates
Principles and practices of SCUBA diving
Basic procedures of an aquarium program
Safe work practices utilized when working with fish and various aquatic life
Maintain and care for a variety of fish within the assigned area
Clean and maintain aquariums
Prepare diets and feed fish according to established guidelines
Identify unusual fish behavior
Observe and detect unusual animal behaviors
Maintain accurate records on fish behavior
Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
Communicate clearly and concisely
