POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, guard street crossings during hours when children are going to and from school. Direct actions of children and traffic; ensure safe crossing. Escort children and pedestrians across the street.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Must successfully complete a four-hour training course to include a written examination and a formal evaluation process. No previous experience is necessary, employee should be proficient on the job within twenty (20) hours serving as a school crossing guard.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is a temporary position. Position requires: Background check, Pre-employment physical.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
Verbally communicate well with adults and children
Interact with children effectively
Have vision correctible to 20/40 or better
Have a minimum field of vision of 120 degrees
Posses a hearing threshold of 40 Db or better
Stand for periods of up to one (1) hour, outdoors in inclement weather
Walk frequently for short distances of 26 feet or more
Hold a sign, blow a whistle and wave other hand while walking
Get out of the way of vehicles quickly
Step up and down off of 6" curbs
Detect and anticipate possible dangers that might occur
Control vehicle and pedestrian traffic
