Title
| Health and Life Safety Exceptions to Information Technology Policies |
Type
| Policy |
Category
| General |
Status | Deprecated |
Approved | 05/12/2004 |
To Be Reviewed | 05/10/2008 |
Scope
| Provides exceptions to approved City information technology policies, standards and procedures where compliance could place employee safety at immediate risk. |
Policy | No City employee shall be expected to perform any duty otherwise required by a City information technology policy, procedure or standard, if the employee could reasonably conclude that the performance of that duty would place the health or life safety of the employee in immediate danger. |
Rationale | Employees are not expected to defend City IT assets with their lives. Example: a City policy may require an employee to log off certain systems or applications before leaving the worksite. In the event that a building evacuation were ordered due to fire or some other threat, the employee would not be expected to remain at or return to his or her workstation to comply with the policy prior to exiting the building.
