Policy
The Information Service Division (ISD) will support PDAs and handheld devices, purchased with City funds, at the Department Director level and above. PDAs and handhelds purchased with personal funds will not be supported. PDAs and handhelds purchased with City funds will have a Microsoft based operating system (e.g. Windows CE or Pocket PC). A centralized ISD City contract will be used by Departments to repair, return, and/or replace PDAs. Departments are responsible for all costs and will provide fund, account and activity numbers before release numbers are given to a vendor. Departments are also responsible to ensure PDAs and handheld devices are warrantied.
Rationale
Due to staffing limitations, it is not possible to support PDA and handheld installation and maintenance Citywide.
